Steven Silverman, Executive Director

Steven Silverman is the founder and executive director of Flex Your Rights and the writer and executive producer of BUSTED: The Citizen's Guide to Surviving Police Encounters.

Previously, Silverman managed the ongoing CHEAR campaign to repeal the Higher Education Act drug provision, which cuts federal financial aid to low-income students reporting drug convictions.

While interviewing dozens of the law's victims, Silverman recognized another social problem: Most victims were pulled deeper into the criminal justice system because they naively waived their constitutional rights during their fateful police encounters. It was this realization that eventually led him to found Flex Your Rights.

Silverman lives in Washington, D.C. He's never been arrested.
