Dear Friend: Since its release in 2003, many of you have encouraged us to build on Busted’s success by creating a new film dealing with the concerns of communities of color. We are well on our way to doing just that! The working title of the film is Street Law: How to Deal with Police & Racial Profiling. Our screenplay continues to generate enthusiastic praise from prominent policing experts and attorneys. We've also recruited larger-than-life trial lawyer William "Billy" Murphy, Jr as narrator. (Watch Billy's cameo in HBO's The Wire.) Street Law will be the first know-your-rights film for people of color -- and it's long overdue. Now we're working to reach our initial $139,400 fundraising goal to complete the project budget. If you agree that Street Law can make a real impact on the lives of individuals dealing with racial profiling and police brutality, I hope you'll consider supporting FYR by making a small or large tax-deductible contribution.Your support will improve constitutional literacy and offer a unique and powerful contribution to the cause of racial justice. Sincerely, Steven Silverman, Executive Director |
