Video: Flex Your Rights Protests Random Searches in D.C.

On Wednesday, Flex Your Rights brought together numerous allies, volunteers and friends to protest random searches on public transportation in the Nation’s Capital. The effort was aimed at voicing opposition to the new search policy, while educating the public about the 4th Amendment right to refuse police searches.

The event generated considerable media attention, including the Washington Post, the Washington CityPaper, and local ABC and NBC affiliates:

Thanks so much to our friends at the Electronic Privacy Information Center, Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, StoptheDrugWar.org, Students for Sensible Drug Policy, and all the volunteers who came out and made this effort a success.

The constant emergence of new threats to our civil liberties is a difficult thing for any freedom-loving citizen to behold, but this unfortunate event also provided a unique opportunity to educate the public about 4th Amendment rights, and that’s exactly what we did.

resisting arrest

some of the police officer is out of control and abusive of their power as wearing a uniform. An older lady was stopped for traffic and has no problem signingn the summon or issue ticket violation as she stated to the officer. She requsted to have other read awhat was written in as handwritten in the paper. He get's angry and present such strong provocation if the lady won't signed he will arrest her. The older lady says she doesn't have problem signing at all just want to understand what was saying in a handwriting states in the form. The police asked the other officer if he has a taser and he spray the eyes of the lady and forcefully drag and pulled her from a car. The lady has multiple bruses and was in the er and visited her doctor.

what?

what?

Idea for consideration

If these searches are random, maybe you can refuse then walk away and then come back through the line. If they get you again, rinse and repeat. Get them to "randomly" try and search you a few times and maybe this could be taken to court.

Priorities

get a life and contribute to an organization that matters, you pussys. If there was an emergency, who would be the first organization that you all would call. Not only is it extremely unrealistic and extremely dangerous to imagine a life without police force, but they are out keeping the streets safe every single day. People's first amendment rights are violated all the time through sexism, racism, and homophobia..Stop blaming the cops for pulling you over and searching you in the first place (which is 99.9% of the time, your fault) and work towards ending injustices in your own life.

Keeping the streets safe? Wh

Keeping the streets safe? Who's going to protect us from them? F*CK the police and F*CK you. YOU are the pussy.

get a clue or get the hell out of the US

Since you're obviously a law abiding citizen, when would you like to schedule the police search of your home? You don't have anything to *hide*, right... so certainly you won't mind. Just in the interest of keeping us all safe.

You also seem to justify further degradation of personal rights, since "some" have already been violated, which is completely illogical. They take an inch, so you want to hand over the next mile? Dumbass.

Priorities

If anyone wonders what's wrong with our country, just read what Danielle wrote.

It's the job of police, firem

It's the job of police, fireman, etc. to respond to an emergency. It's why we hire them. Our right to be free from unreasonable search and seizure is a safeguard to prevent government from using it's police powers as a terror weapon in an attempt to stifle liberty.

priorities?

Personal attacks? Really? Isn't that always the way with people who have no logical argument to present? We're not imagining life without a police force, its life with a police force that follow the constitution in all aspects. How are people's first amendment rights violated by racism, sexism, and homophobia? They aren't, that's how. People's rights to be racist, sexist, homophobic bums are protected under the first amendment. How is it our fault that we are searched if we are, say, Middle Eastern, or a hippy, or a black, again... its not. Its profiling, plain and simple, and profiling is wrong. The Patriot Act has severely crippled civil righs in this country, so we are fighting injustices in our own lives, the injustice of not being able to live how we choose, not having the basic rights guaranteed in the Constitution, the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Please read both the Constitution, as well as the Bill of Rights before you type out a profoundly ignorant comment. Lets try to keep this argument elevated above name-calling.

Hey we all know what the poli

Hey we all know what the police are capable of. If they want you they get you plain and simple.
They stop and arrest without cause or warrant. They disappear you, like the Chilian dictator Pinnochet.
They torture people with tasers sending 50,000 volts of electricity into a human being who has not been convicted of any death penalty offense.
They serveil and monitor all communication though we are garanteed the freedom of speech.
WAKE UP AMERICA THE JACK BOOTED MASKED THUGS HAVE TAKEN CONTROL and they pick us off one patriot at a time.

The officer comments that one

The officer comments that one has the right to refuse search and not utilize the service. Do they then have the right to request that any tax money that supports the service be returned to them?

Rights

what did you do?
