Shawn Heller is currently a second-year student at Georgtown University Law School.
Previously, Heller served as National Director of Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP). Also a co-founder of the group, Heller was instrumental in it's remarkable growth over the past four years. SSDP now has 120 chapters on college and high school campuses.
Before his involvement in SSDP, Heller worked in the White House Office of Political Affairs, where he served as assistant the Deputy Director for Political Affairs. During his experience with government Heller asked tough questions about the War on Drugs and its adverse on Americans. He got very few answers.
After educating himself about the real consequences of the War on Drugs, Heller began an internship at the Drug Reform Coordination Network in 1998. During the internship Heller founded the second chapter of SSDP at The George Washington University.
Heller has provided testimony on drugs and discrimination for the American Bar Association. His articles have been published in the Miami Herald and he's been quoted in hundreds of national and collegiate publications on issues concerning drug policy and student activism, including Rolling Stone Magazine, The New York Times, USA Today, Associated Press, Chicago Tribune, and Salon.com. He's also appeared on CNN and Fox News.
Heller is also a member of the DanceSafe board of directors and was the 2002 High Times "Freedom Fighter of the Year." Heller gratuated from The George Washington University (B.A. Political Science and a minor in Criminal Justice, 2000).
