"I recently had the opportunity to show BUSTED to an introductory-level criminal justice course, which has approximately 300 students. The actors in the film are about the age of my students and the scenarios are situations familiar to my students. The reaction was overwhelmingly positive. By showing both what can go wrong and how it can be righted, they went away with a much better understanding of their constitutional rights. Its an excellent film that I would highly recommend." Tell Me Something New!
Cops have been hassling (or worse) innocent citizens since the beginning. The key is to call them on it with irrefutable evidence and/or a plethora of eyewitness testimony. The dashboard camera is an excellent idea... "Smile -- you're on Candid Camera, officer friendly!"
I wish I had one as a Snohomish County (WA) motorcycle cop pulled a huey in front of me, and I had to dynamite the brakes to keep from running his butt over. My reward? A ticket for a cracked windshield. The code cited (RCW 46.37.410) states only that I must have a windshield, cannot add signs etc to it that block my view, and I must have working wipers. Not a thing about the condition of the windshield.
You bet yer life I'm challenging this one. I want to see the judge admonish the cop for hassling citizens whose property taxes pay his salary.
