Your cousins are going from a place where they are ordered to kill people without moral qualification, to a civilized society where murder is against the law. How exactly do you expect them to come back completely fine? They may very well be lunatics, unable to square their primal urge to kill, that has been stoked and honed, with a society that outlaws violence against others. While it's true that in times of war, most soldiers don't even shoot at the enemy, some really relish the act of killing a person. I think the question of "are they lunatics" goes to what side of that particular fence they fall on.
