Are Racist Cops Better Organized Than We Thought?

This is just chilling:
INSIDE the locker of a narcotics cop, Philadelphia police officials recently made a shocking discovery: A cartoon of a man, half as an officer in uniform and half as a Klansman with the words: "Blue By Day - White By Night. White Power," according to police officials.

Schweizer, 33, joined the force in June 1997 and makes $54,794 a year, city payroll records show. He became part of the elite Narcotics Strike Force about six years ago. As an undercover, plainclothes cop who worked day and night shifts, Schweizer was part of a surveillance team that watched drug buys and locked up hundreds of suspected drug dealers. He frequently testified in court as a witness for prosecutors. [Philadelphia Daily News]
Racial disparities abound in the war on drugs, but most analysis of the drug war's disparate impact focuses on institutional bias. Rarely are we confronted with such a disturbing window into the racist mindset of an individual officer. Such beliefs render one thoroughly unqualified to carry out law-enforcement duties in any capacity and raise serious questions about this officer's past actions.

More troubling, however, is the possibility that Schweizer is just the tip of the iceberg. Is he a cartoonist? Did he draw the thing himself, or is there a larger organization that produces and markets police-themed racist merchandise to a clientele of closeted white supremacist police officers? I don't know the answer, but this poster sounds like a logo for something very creepy.

Of course, this is just one anecdotal incident, but when such revelations occur within an institution with such a hideously rich tradition of racial bias, it certainly doesn't feel like a coincidence. It is an unflattering portrait of our criminal justice system that adherents to such ideology are able to assimilate within it. Indeed, had he merely possessed the wisdom to keep racist cartoons out if his locker, this officer would still be hard at work filling our prisons with young black and Hispanic drug offenders.

Good Cop, Bad Cop

First of all, shame on the previous people for using this site for marketing.
It's funny, seeing this article, I am immediately reminded of a movie I saw titled "Strange Days" (my x-wife was REALLY into Ralph Fiennes at the time), in which 2 corrupt LAPD cops murdered the top rap star of the time and the only tape of the incident ended up in the hands of a basically low-life "feed junkie." In fact, a quote from the movie was "the LAPD just murdered [insert his name here, it's been a while] in cold blood". Ends up that it was a couple corrupt officers, not the entire "system" that did this. Luckily it never ended up on the 11:00 news.
I in no way condone such an act and personally believe that anyone, (officer or not) that participates should be either strung up from the highest gallows our legal system has to offer, or sent to a country where he may be more comfortable.
To even suggest that this is a conspiracy is preposterous, however. After all, a part of the police system is essentially a part of general society as well (there are ALOT of bad seeds in the world). As online entities, We are a ratings based society, and I understand that it's our cross to bear, even as advocates of a just cause, but to even suggest that the very people that we CHOOSE to protect us are in a whole or even a large part, racist, is self destruction. It turns, at that part into a bitch fest, and no one is right in that regard. Hang HIM, austricize HIM, but for god's sake, don't make him a martyr for his misguided friends.
I'm a white male who believes in rights for everyone. But we have to remember the goal is legalization, not getting back at the cops who bust us for participating in illegal activities. It's still illegal. After all.. who turned him in?

A long note-

I remember this one movie I saw a long long time ago... I don't remember the name but it was a small budget independent film I went to see with a neighbor. It was about a cop more over in doing undercover work, she had a partner which was Hispanic and she her self was African-American. There was this man and his kid that one day after work he was going home and on his way home this little girl ran into the street and he hit her with the car... the man didn't know what to do so he got out of the car looked at them and since he didn't have papers he was scared and got into his car and fled... it just so happens that the family of the girl where "white". The film then continues as the detectives look for this man... the finally track him down he tries to cooperate but he is still scared, through the movie she is seen to have like this hatred towards him because of being Hispanic... Her partner makes a remark that says, it appears that the background check doesn't cover all aspects of a persons real mentality because it has it's limitations... turns out her brother was shot and killed when she was young by a Hispanic gang member and held resentment... later when she is chasing the man in the last minutes of the movie... she tells him to stop he doesn't he isn't threatening her however... she points her gun at him and tells him again to stop, he just keeps going and she shoots him a whole bunch of times... sad ending... but ironically enough... the family that ends up adopting the boy was the parents of the little girl that got ran over in the beginning.

On my note:

I think that not one person is right or wrong, it just really depends too much where you're coming from, what you've been through. There's just too many factors social struggles, economic, and psychological-emotional struggles or issues... You just can't assume anything about anyone it's something difficult to discern. But what I do see possible instead of being quick in pointing fingers you should observe learn and open your minds to everything, you never know what you'll learn. I have been asked by officers why am I so hostile sometimes... I tell them it's because I respond in whatever manner they approach me. I tell them I don't HATE cops because they too are not all rotten apples. They really should be tested however in judgment and situation control not through tests that they are aware of, but more like undercover deputies that test their own force!

Cop must be given the same rights we expect...

I think it would have to be extremely important that this person was shown the same benefit of due process that we'd all demand for ourselves. Was it a disgusting cartoon? In my opinion, yeah. Against the policies of his employer? I would hope so!

However, perhaps unfortunately, I don't think you get in that much criminal trouble for merely possessing something like that. Fired from work, suspended, whatever (esp. since he is a police officer, they would be right in questioning his ability to deal with the public, if they had the integrity to consider such things regularly).

But does anyone know if what he possessed constitutes a crime of any kind?
